Computer networking tips for the home
user

If you have your own home network which includes:

**At least two computers,

**And Internet connection,

**And possibly a router,

Then these networking tips are for you.

Computer network security

Once people have their computers networked and connected to
the Internet they neglect to secure their connection. This is especially
necessary when you have a wireless Internet signal.

There are a few ways to set up network security. One
includes configuring your router security settings and enabling it to use a
secure password. This means that when people want to connect to your network,
they will need to enter the password.

If you do not set a network security password you are
inviting people to log on to your network and see all the files you are
sharing, and possibly even or change them. This all depends on your settings,
however it is much better to be safe than sorry.

Wired VS Wireless

Getting a wireless connection isn’t everything that it’s
cracked up to be. It really depends on where you live as to how fast it is. It
also depends on how far the signal has to go. If you can possibly connect your
network together with wires (cables) then you will undoubtedly have a faster
connection. Wireless sounds fancy and is very convenient, however it is not as
fast as connecting network cables.

I actually preferred to have a wired network in my home to
avoid interference from other devices in my home. For example the simple
telephone interferes with a wireless network connectionArticle Submission, as does a TV remote
control. You will be amazed at what devices are being used in your house that
can interfere with a wireless Internet connection.

Finding the right I SP (Internet service
provider)

Many people sign up with an ISP because they are cheap.
Unfortunately this is not a good idea because if you cannot get an Internet
connection when you want one is the most frustrating thing that can happen. I
prefer to sign up with an ISP company that has a stable connection available to
me 24 hours a day.

Word of mouth is a great way to do your research to find the
best I SP in your area. You can also search online and visit the forums. If
anything bad is being said about an ISP you will be out of find it by
searching.

These home networking tips can apply to anyone with two or
more computers in their house.
